LAKE MARY, FLORIDA -- Maynard Electronics, Inc., an Archive company, today
announced an aggressive MaynStream software promotion that represents a
potential costs savings to customers of up to $2500.
Under the "Get More MaynStream Software For Your Money" program, customers
who purchase any MaynStream SCSI-based system between now and March 31,
1992, will be able to select a copy of either the MaynStream NLM or
MaynStream for Windows software products in addition to MaynStream for DOS
software, the software package normally included with the system.
MaynStream for Windows and MaynStream NLM software products will be
available for shipment this Spring. MaynStream Version 3.1 software for
DOS is currently shipping.
"We expect the 'Get More MaynStream Software For Your Money' promotion to
generate a great deal of excitement in the channel," said Don Flanagan,
Maynard's vice president of domestic sales. "We are enabling our resellers
to offer a tremendous incentive to their customers to purchase MaynStream
systems. For the length of the promotion, when users buy a MaynStream
system we will provide them with a selection of additional software ideal
for mixed operating environments, at no additional cost."
Systems included in the promotion are the MaynStream 600CS cassette system,
MaynStream 525Q quarter-inch system, MaynStream 2000 DAT system,
MaynStream 2200HS+ and MaynStream 5000HS 8mm systems. In addition,
customers who purchase MaynStream QIC-02 systems (MaynStream 60CS,
MaynStream 150CS, MaynStream 60Q and MaynStream 250Q systems) between now
and March 31, 1992 will receive a free copy of MaynStream for Windows
software. Users can receive their free software by returning the coupon
included with the system purchase to Maynard.
MaynStream NLM software is a fully integrated NetWare 386 fileserver-based
data management solution. Selected as the winner of "Editor's Choice" by
Computer Technology Review, MaynStream NLM software is ideal for network
environments. MaynStream NLM software will perform backup operations for
all Novell servers and DOS-workstations operating on a Novell internet
without the use of additional software. The network administrator can
control all network data management operations from either a workstation
or the fileserver. The network administrator can develop a script or
scripts to schedule backup operations after working hours, while network
traffic is low for totally automated network data protection.
The MaynStream for Windows product, designed for use with Microsoft Windows
products, is ideal for use with both individual PC and network users.
Through the use of Microsoft Windows' graphical user interface, backup
operations for local drives, servers and remote workstations, are
accomplished with a simple click of a mouse. MaynStream for Windows
software follows the interface used in Microsoft Windows applications so
that users will immediately find the system familiar. Some of these
features include an icon button bar for quick access to commonly used
functions and a graphical hierarchical directory tree for quick navigation
through disk drives for quick selection of backup or restore files.
In order to ensure compatibility within the product line, all tapes created
using either MaynStream NLM or MaynStream for Windows software can be read
by MaynStream for DOS, MaynStream for OS/2, MaynStream for Windows,
MaynStream NLM, MaxStream for Macintosh computers and LANStream products.
In addition, both MaynStream NLM and MaynStream for Windows software can
read tapes created by MaynStream for DOS, MaynStream for OS/2, MaynStream
for Windows, MaynStream NLM, MaxStream and LANStream products. This
compatibility provides a simple and convenient way to move files between
different operating systems, while allowing the backup system to evolve
along with the network.

--------------------------------------------------------
LAKE MARY, FLORIDA -- Archive Corporation, the parent company of Maynard
Electronics, Inc. and Irwin Magnetic Systems, Inc., recently reorganized
Irwin's operations into two divisions to serve the OEM and distribution
markets. As a result of this reorganization, Archive has combined Irwin's
distribution organization with Maynard's organization and will transfer a
portion of Irwin's administrative and support activities to Maynard in
Lake Mary, Florida.
"The customer will reap considerable benefits from this reorganization,"
said George Rea, President of Maynard. "Maynard prides itself on offering
a 'Maynard Everywhere' backup solution across all backup technologies,
capacities and operating platforms. With the addition of the Irwin product
line, we offer increased tape backup support with complete product
offerings designed and priced for both the high-end and the entry-levels
of the market."
The reorganization was made as part of an overall realignment of Archive
into market-dedicated organizations to reduce operating costs and expenses
and to more closely focus the Company's efforts on its OEM and
distribution businesses.
With combined sales in excess of $150 million, Maynard and Irwin together
offer the broadest product line in the tape backup market, the best
trained and most experienced support staff in the industry and the most
extensive network of resellers. This will allow Maynard to take advantage
of greater economies of scale to better meet the needs of the
Maynard/Irwin customer base. Product development will take advantage of
the two companies' combined technical, support and marketing expertise.
Rea said that Irwin customers will continue to receive the same high level
of support from Maynard.
"Maynard remains committed to delivering superior customer service and
support, and all current Maynard and Irwin customers will continue to
receive that support," Rea continued. "In light of that goal, Chris Tipton
has been named General Manager of the Irwin Distribution Division and has
relocated to Ann Arbor, Michigan. Mr. Tipton was Vice President of
Customer Service at Maynard and most recently, Vice President of Maynard's
Systems Business Group."
Both Maynard and Irwin have traditionally offered full lines of tape backup
products, each aimed at different segments of the market, spanning all
operating systems, technologies and capacities. As a result of the
reorganization, the Irwin product line will be incorporated into Maynard's
product offerings. Maynard products will retain their current
configuration, featuring high performance Maynard software designed for
high-end tape backup applications. Irwin products will retain their
current configuration and will continue to be aimed at the entry-level
tape backup market.
Consequently, the expanded Maynard/Irwin product line offers corporate
buyers increased flexibility. Maynard customers can now purchase the ideal
backup product for virtually any application from a single source. In
addition, the domestic and international sales departments of Maynard and
Irwin have been combined offering distributors one focal point of contact
for both product lines.
